Projects

In collaboration with stakeholders across Canada, bSC is working on numerous projects to advance the use of open, interoperable standards in Canada's built asset industry, leading the way for digital transformation.

1. New Edition of BIM Contract Appendix - In Progress

The BIM Contract Appendix (IBC 100-2014) removes hurdles that previously existed, and improves collaboration, coordination, and efficiency on project teams by reducing uncertainty and risk around the application of BIM on projects. This new edition provides clarity to key concepts, offers practical solutions to challenges, and the terminology is designed to harmonize with CCDC and ISO 19650.

Collaborators: We are looking for professional associations and industry to review, comment, test, and pilot the revisions to the BIM Contract Appendix. Please contact us if interested!

2. Provincial & Territorial Scan of BIM Readiness in Canada

The first step in developing wide-ranging standards and processes for BIM in the Canadian architecture, engineering, construction, owners, operators, and managers (AECOOM) sector is understanding the level of readiness that exists across the country’s provinces and territories. This project will provide a better understand industry readiness across the country, including investigating factors such as BIM adoption, implementation, and maturity to inform decisions regarding the future of BIM in the Canadian government.

3. Scan of International openBIM Implementations

One of the key elements openBIM is trying to solve is global interoperability as openBIM data is easily shared and ensures its long-term reliability. To develop a cohesive strategy and corresponding guidance to implement openBIM and promote interoperability in Canada, it is necessary to understand how leading international jurisdictions are managing interoperability. This includes reviewing what openBIM tools are being used, what platforms are being used to exchange BIM data and whether they are proprietary, what interoperability standards have been implemented, and what guidance has been issued. The information gathered from this review will be used to inform the future state of openBIM and interoperability requirements in Canada.
